Tascur

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tascur?

Tascur is a new take on the old todo list.

Keeping track of everything you need to do takes time and effort, and balancing your workload can be overwhelming.

As the owner of a one-person web development company, some days felt like I would never reach the end of my todo list. On other days, I'd be done with it by noon, wondering what I should work on next.

So, I created Tascur to help balance my workload and even my days.

Some tasks have a precise due date. Others are more flexible. Tascur allows you to assign a due date for the tasks that need them and lets the system schedule more flexible ones automatically on days when you are less busy. These tasks live in a queue called the Stack.

Tascur keeps track of long-term tasks in a queue called the Heap. Tasks on the Heap can wait to be handled when you have the time.

Heap? Stack? What is this madness?

The Stack and the Heap are just two queues where your tasks live.

The Stack is used for tasks you should be working on now (or very soon), while The Heap is for long-term goals or things you'd like to get to someday when you have extra time.

How Do I Schedule Stack Tasks?

You can schedule Stack tasks in several different ways:

  • For tasks with a specific due date, you can assign the date to complete them, and the system puts them on your Stack for that day.
  • You can have the system automatically pick a due date for you, which we call "Throwing it on the Stack." This is good for tasks that need to be completed soon but don't have a specific due date. When you throw a task on the Stack, the system will look at the next seven days to find one where you have fewer tasks scheduled and make that the task's due date.
  • Repeating tasks will automatically be scheduled on the Stack when the previous tasks are completed. Tasks can be repeated daily, weekly (on one or more days of the week), monthly on a specific date, or a set number of days after completion. You can also have repeating tasks thrown back on the Stack for the system to assign a new due date automatically.

How Do I Schedule Heap Tasks?

Heap tasks can only be scheduled in one way: by "Throwing it on the Heap."

Heap tasks will have no assigned due date. They'll just hang out on the Heap until you pull them to the Stack.

How Do I Manage A Todo List in Tascur?

The tasks lined up for today are where you'll spend most of your time. You can check tasks off and move on to the next one as you complete them as you would with any todo list.

If you get to the end of your list for the day, you can look at Stack tasks scheduled for upcoming days to pull them today. You can do the same with Heap tasks.

But sometimes you get to the end of your day before getting to the end of your todo list. When this happens, you can either push the task to tomorrow (if it really needs to be finished soon) or push it back on the Stack to be scheduled sometime in the next seven days.
